African Safari for a Great Cause !!

Ever wanted to go on an African safari, but just haven't found the time??
Well the time is NOW.

As their fundraiser of the year, Africa Solar Fund is offering a 10-day exclusive, guided safari in the Serengeti region of Tanzania the first week in January, 2016, for a one-time donation of $10,000.

We plan the entire trip, taking you to the farthest reaches of the Serengeti plains to see some of the most noteworthy animals of East Africa on their great migration of the season.

Food, lodging & transportation are provided, & your guided tour will take you across the grasslands of northern Tanzania & down towards Kilimanjaro.  We will also take you for a tour of the Northern Tanzanian villages where your donation helps provide solar power to local schools & clinics, enabling critical medical procedures to be performed at night, students to study past dark, & adults to also go to business school - all never before possible in this area.

Africa Solar Fund has been working in Tanzania for the past decade, assisting small communities with solar technologies & drastically improving quality of life for hard working people.

Join us for the trip of a lifetime, knowing you are changing lives forever & providing never-before possible opportunities to people in need.

A Single Solar Panel Can Change A Family's Life

BBC:  Is the sun rising on an African solar revolution?
Is the sun the answer to Africa's energy problems? Analysts believe solar power could be the world's largest source of power by 2050.
Deep in northern Kenya, above Napuu Village, there is only the brightest of full moons to light the way.
You can hear the chatter as villagers sit around open fires but with the nearest mains power station more than 200km (124 miles) away, there is nothing else to light up the village.
Here power is a precious thing and only a few can enjoy what many take for granted.
But inside David Lodio's small home - two rooms made of breeze blocks and mud - there is light.
His family watch television, his six children do their homework without candles. There is no need for expensive kerosene lamps - all because of a single solar panel on his tin roof.
"When we started using the solar panels, life changed in a good way," says Mr Lodio.
"When we started using these panels, the children could do their homework well, the children could watch the news and football on TV. I am seeing my children reading and writing well," he explains.

Africa Solar Fund: Update on TanzSolar Home Lighting Program

TanzSolar has been working hard to bring solar light to schools in rural Tanzania, and their efforts are making a really big difference in the lives of students normally unable to study past dusk.  Solar lights give ambitious and dedicated students the edge they need to get ahead and really make a difference in achieving their scholastic goals.

TanzSolar is currently supplying a new type of portable solar lanterns which is called NIWA and DASOL home lighting systems at reasonable price from its new shipment that has just arrived. Due to a big demand of solar energy units, TanzSolar is working hard to ensure that is in a position of being a solution to people's demand by having enough equipment and products to fulfill market demand. Your funds allow us to reduce the price on these lights by 50% so that people can afford them.

Many families are happy due to the fact that they don't have to spend money on kerosene and can save money for buying food, school fees and medical care. Children have bright light to study and don't breathe carbon gas and fumes from kerosene lanterns any more.

This project is nearly fully funded. Please help us finish it off! And we encourage you to support TanzSolar's project to bring solar lighting to schools. Very soon we hope to add a project to electrify health care facilities as well.

A small donation from you could make a huge difference in a student's life.

Thank you for your support!

Community Solar is Picking Up Steam

Don't own your home?  Don't have enough space on your roof?  Roof face the wrong direction?  Don't despair - you can still benefit from solar without putting it on your roof!

PG&E will soon offer its customers an option to buy solar energy to account for 100% of their electricity needs, in part of a statewide effort to provide clean energy to Californians who aren't able to have solar on their homes.

This process is commonly called community solar, and refers to a process to allow people to own a stake of clean energy, and see the benefits reflected on their energy bills, without having solar installed on their own roof.

Now Is The Time To Invest In Solar, Because People Are Stupid

If you’re thinking of investing in solar energy companies, now might be a good time to buy.
Most of the major publicly traded solar companies have seen their stock prices decline by around 10 to 20 percent over the last three months.

Normally, declining stock prices would reflect weak growth or a shaky outlook for an industry. But solar energy is growing by leaps and bounds. In the first three quarters of 2014, 3,966 megawatts of solar capacity were installed in the U.S., compared to 2,647 MW in the first three quarters of 2013. Solar deployment is not only expanding, but the pace at which it’s growing keeps accelerating. In 2014, according to a new report from the Solar Foundation, an independently funded think tank, the solar industry added workers almost 20 times faster than the overall U.S. economy, accounting for almost 1.3 percent of all jobs created.
So why are solar stock prices not keeping pace? Because American investors are uninformed, apparently. It turns out that the free market and its crowd-sourced opinions are not always so wise after all.

Grid Parity Here We Come !

Africa's Skipping The Grid Completely

2015 - The Year of Solar

Community Solar Lets Everyone Go Solar !

The community solar concept is gaining ground across the US, and it could work anywhere in the world where virtual net metering can be implemented. Also called a community solar garden, it gives people a way to use solar energy without having solar panels installed on their roofs. The solar gardens are really solar farms, built on a piece of land either in or near the community that it serves.

The September 2014 report, “Expanding Solar Access Through Utility-led Community Solar” from Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) found that community solar participation jumped 64% in 18 months in the US.
