TanzSolar Wins Energy Globe Award!

The National Energy Globe Award distinguishes best project submissions from 161 countries around the world, & is today's most prestigious environmental award.  It is awarded annually to projects focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energies, & the conservation of resources, & the Energy Globe Certificate is an internationally recognized hallmark for sustainability.

We couldn't be prouder that TanzSolar was selected to accept this award for our work in Tanzania.  We have been striving to expand our abilities to bring more solar systems to schools and medical clinics in the rural communities of Tanzania, & are excited to reach even more people through recognition of this award.

TanzSolar's Claudia Magera Damas accepts the award on behalf of TanzSolar.

What a Difference a Light Makes!

Do you remember the last time there was a power outage??   If you live on the East Coast, your memory of such things might be a little fresher, but either way, I bet you just didn't know what to DO with yourself!  Imagine living life that way ~ without access to all of the technical gadgets we hold dear, but more than that ~ without light.  I remember living in Africa in the Peace Corps, & people just pretty much go to bed when the sun goes down.   Makes sense.

Africa Solar Fund is working hard to bring solar lighting to rural areas in East Africa, & is making a video to exemplify this need to people in the US, Europe & our 'developed' world where we can hardly imagine life without electricity, let alone the hardships & difficulties associated with life without light.

Anna, our videographer, starts out the video below, & that's me [awkwardly] explaining the program & fundraiser (with Russell in my lap ~ my beloved charge for my dog-sitting side job).  I am proud to be on the board of Africa Solar Fund, which is helping bring much-needed light to rural villages in Africa.

Have a look, & please contribute if you're able.  Just a few dollars could change an entire family's life drastically in Africa.

It'll feel really good.

I promise.

TanzSolar's Important Work in Lighting Up Africa

I am proud to be on the Board of this nonprofit doing great work to bring light to schools, clinics & homes in rural Africa.

This project provides affordable solar light to 3,400 households in Tanzania, & is expanding to schools & clinics to enable villagers to read, study & work, eliminating kerosene lanterns & improving health while reducing C02 emissions.

Check out this video to get a glimpse of some of the people these programs are helping on a daily basis in Tanzania:

Solatube Daylighting Systems

I stumbled across this hybrid car on my dog walk this balmy evening, & was intrigued by the 'Solatube' stenciling on the side, so I took a pic & checked em out on the web when I got home.

How cool is this??  This gutter system business offers these babies as one of their side products: small, affordable sky lights that work naturally & effectively in any room of your house; no structural changes to your house, about 2 hours to install.

I have no idea what they cost, but natural sunlight in all of your rooms??  Count me in !!

Based in Fairfield & Grass Valley, CA... check em out if you're in the area:

TanzSolar's Residential Installations in Tanzania: Update

"What we are finding in our follow-up visits is that people are very, very happy to have solar lights.  They are saving a significant amount on kerosene purchases -a few dollars/month, which could easily be 20% of their monthly income.  They comment that their children can now study in the evenings, and they are glad when they no longer have smoky kerosene lanterns indoors."
